The latest World Economic Forum report on Digital Twin Cities listed the Georgetown Project, spearheaded by Urbanetic, a GeoWorks GeoTech, as one example of how digital twin city models can be successfully applied to urban projects.

Georgetown, the capital of Penang, Malaysia, was badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as tourism was one of its leading sectors. To promote economic recovery, Georgetown used the digital twin city platform to predict the impact of risks on urban infrastructure and simulate new urban projects to enhance liveability.

“Digital twins shall be implemented as a ‘data as a service platform’ to rapidly generate a city prototype, automatically build a system space and predict the construction cost of a city in the future,” said Saibal D. Chowdhury, the Chief Executive Officer of Urbanetic.
