The Local People and The Singapore Land Authority Present An Electrifying Evening At The Power Station
Together with the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), The Local People will transform the Turbine Hall in Pasir Panjang Power Station at 27 Pasir Panjang Road, into a spectacular one day only music and cultural extravaganza. Built as Singapore’s second station, almost three decades after St. James Power Station, this iconic red-brick State property will be opened to the public on Hari Raya Haji on 22 August, from 12pm to 12am.
After the success of the Duct Tape Party on State land under the West Coast Viaduct in 2017, The Local People have continued its collaborative effort with the SLA to creatively breathe new life into State land and properties. A first at the Pasir Panjang Power Station, the vast industrial setting will set the scene for a cultural encounter like no other, complete with biker security by The Wicked Wallop and Uncle Ringo’s Trackless Choo Choo Train to take you around the power station.
Themed around the iconic property’s original raison d’etre on electrical flux, we will be offering two sides of everything you’ve come to expect from The Local People. Juxtaposed against the metal skeleton of the Power Station, the cages onsite will be transformed into utilitarian galleries for ten Art Exhibitions: featuring multiple art forms from mainstream paint on canvas to alternative media art.
Get amped as we turn the volume up when the lights go down. At 5pm and 7pm, the main stage will transform into a live vocal battleground between seasoned rock stars Shirlyn + The UnXpected versus local award-winning a capella group The Apex Project, with live recording by Snakeweed Studios. Lunarin will get you in the flow from 8pm with a live paint jam, before Ginette Chittick slays the dance floor grooves from 9pm till late.
Whether you prefer to be energized by live performances, or uncover unique finds at our signature Art Market, there will be something to ignite your creative fire. Providing sustenance for you to power through the night, our food and beverage booths feature The Travelling C.O.W. (Chef on Wheels), Popaganda Sorbets, The Better Half artisanal bakery and more.
Visitors are encouraged to take public transport as there is no parking within Pasir Panjang Power Station.
