Appointment of members of the SLA
The Minister for Law has appointed two new Members of the Singapore Land
Authority (SLA) for a term of two years from 1 June 2004. They are:
- Mr. Ravi Vijayaraghavan

Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific
Managing Director, Singapore

About Mr. Ravi Vijayaraghavan
Mr. Ravi Vijayaraghavan is a Partner
at the leading global management consulting firm of Bain & Company. Based in
Singapore, Mr. Vijayaraghavan heads his firm's Technology and Telecommunications
practice for Greater China and South East Asia.
Mr. Vijayaraghavan brings
with him a wealth of professional experience and knowledge in the areas of
business strategy, operations, and organisation effectiveness both within the
high-technology space and beyond. During his 10 years in the consulting field in
Asia, he has advised leading global and regional companies spanning telecom
services, computing, IT services, telecom equipment, and software. His work has
covered critical strategic issues such as market entry and new product
development, as well as business turnarounds and spanned the entire Asia-Pacific
region as well as the United States.
In addition to his consulting
practice, Mr. Vijayaraghavan is a frequent contributor to business journals and
a speaker at technology industry conferences. Mr. Vijayaraghavan holds
bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from India and the US,
and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.
About Mr.
Jimmy Tay
Mr. Jimmy Tay joined Hill & Knowlton in October 1999. He
leads the Singapore operations and is also the Asia Pacific Key Client
Relationship Manager for Hewlett-Packard. He has consulted with a broad range of
multinational and local companies, both listed and private, as well as held
senior in-house corporate communications positions with major corporations.
Prior to joining Hill & Knowlton, Mr Tay began his public relations
career in 1981 at Burson-Marsteller's offices in Los Angeles and Singapore. In
1986, he led Standard Chartered Bank's PR & advertising department and was
in charge of its internal and external communications for South-East Asia. These
included StanChart's successful defence against a hostile takeover bid by Lloyds
Bank plc, corporate re-positioning after a global restructuring exercise and
marketing communications for the full range of consumer and corporate banking
services across the region. In 1994, he obtained a Dealer's Representative
licence from Singapore's stock exchange and was a member of an equity sales team
in a leading foreign-owned brokerage. In January 1998, he returned to PR
consulting as a director in an international boutique specialising in corporate
and financial communications.
Mr. Ravi Vijayaraghavan and Mr. Jimmy Tay
will join Mr. Liew Heng San, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Law and
Chairman of SLA, and nine other existing Members, five of whom have all been
re-appointed for a further period of one year from 1 June 2004 while the
remaining four will serve their term till 31 May 2005. The 12-member board will
provide inputs to guide SLA's new initiatives and businesses in land-related
matters.

- Mr. Leslie Chew Kwee Hoe, Senior Counsel, Managing Partner, Khattar Wong & Partners;
- Dr Amy Khor Lean Suan, Director (Investment/Sales), Knight Frank Pte Ltd;
- Mr. Timothy Teo, Director of Foreign Exchange, Government of Singapore Investment Corporation Pte Ltd; and
- Mr. Greg Seow, Executive Chairman, DBS Asset Management Ltd.
The other Members are:
- Dr Steven Choo, Senior Vice President, Research and Corporate Development, CapitaLand;
- Mr. Venkatachalam Krishnakumar, Chief Operating Officer & Chief Financial Officer, Citibank, N.A. Consumer Bank, Asia Pacific;
- Mr. Stan G. Tebbe; Regional Director, ExxonMobil Chemical Asia Pacific; and
- Mr. Raymond Woo, Principal Architect, Raymond Woo & Associates Architects.
SLA would also like to express its appreciation for the outstanding service
and guidance rendered by a retiring Member who has served SLA since its
formation on 1 June 2001. He is Mr. Chia Wee Boon, Senior Vice President,
Customer Solutions Group, Asia Pacific & Japan, Hewlett Packard.
