Singapore Land Authority awards tender for intelligent map system
Singapore (18 February 2009) – The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) has awarded the tender for the design, development and maintenance of a government-wide intelligent map system.
2 The tender, which closed on 17 November, includes development and maintenance of the system. SLA had received 4 bids from major IT service providers comprising both local and regional companies, with track records in geographic information systems (GIS) solutions. After careful evaluation of the proposals, SLA has awarded the project to NIIT Technologies Pte Ltd, a global IT solutions provider.
3 NIIT Technologies, together with its subsidiary ESRI (India), and in partnership with ESRI (Singapore), has proposed a solution based on ESRI ArcGIS Server 9.3 and Microsoft Dot Net Technology for the development of the intelligent map system.
4 Speaking on the award of the project, NIIT-GIS Chief Operating Officer Dr Mukund Rao said "NIIT-GIS is proud to be associated with this unique intelligent map system of SLA. We will closely work with ESRI Singapore and will bring its ESRI India strengths to this project. NIIT-GIS is committed to the success of this project and would deliver a world-class solution by crafting and designing the best of the GIS solution for it.
5 Mr Kailash Agarwal, Asia Pacific Head – GIS Business, of NIIT Technologies, Singapore, added that this award is reflection of the single-minded effort and commitment of NIIT to expand our unique GIS solutions offerings within the region by working with local ESRI Distributors.
6 SLA’s director of
Land Asset Management Services and Land Information Centre, Mr Ng Siau Yong
said: “The award of this tender to NIIT Technologies brings us one step closer
to our aim of creating a common and consistent map interface for government
agencies to build their own map services using an Application Programming
Interface. SLA expects that NIIT Technologies will be able to come up with an
exceptional solution that will bring in unique capabilities of intelligent map
services for Singaporeans. The public will soon be able to tap on rich
government content and mash it up with their own collection of spatial
information to create services and to support enterprises’ business needs, and
individuals’ personal needs.”
7 The project
development is expected to take about 9 months to complete, and will be
launched in early 2010.
