About Spatial Challenge
The SLA Spatial Challenge is an initiative of the Singapore Land Authority
aimed at encouraging the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
technology in Schools. Supported by the Ministry of Education and Esri
Singapore, the Challenge is organised for Pre-University and Tertiary students
to increase the awareness of GIS in students, and encourage innovative use of
GIS in Singapore.

The main sponsor of Spatial Challenge is Esri Singapore1 , which has generously provided cash-prize for five special awards, free GIS software, training, and technical expertise for the competition.
Global Yellow Pages2 has kindly provided cash-prize for one special award and the business listing data in Singapore.
GPS Lands (S) Pte Ltd3 has also provided the loan of GPS handheld devices to aid students in carrying data collection for the projects.
CRISP4 has provided the satellite imagery for teams.
The Ministry of Education has graciously lent us their
support for the competition and has strongly encouraged the schools to
participate.

Competition Categories
Pre-University GIS Analysis Category
This category is open to all Pre-University students. Teams are required use spatial data, together with a GIS software, to analyse issues and find solutions to problems from a spatial perspective.
Tertiary GIS Analysis Category
This category is open to all students from Tertiary Institutions. Similar to the Pre-University GIS Analysis Category, teams would be using spatial data and concepts to examine issues from a geographical perspective.
Tertiary GIS Application Category*
This category is open to all students from Tertiary Institutions with some knowledge in programming. Teams are expected to develop a GeoSpatial application using computer programming.

4 The Centre for Remote
Imaging, Sensing and Processing (CRISP) was established in late 1992 at the
National University of Singapore with funding from Agency for Science,
Technology and Research (A*STAR). Its mission is to develop a capability for
satellite remote sensing to meet the operational, business and scientific needs
of Singapore and the
region.
